Since I started this blog, Carla has not been ready to read it or any of the comments directly, so I've been letting her know who's left messages and reading the comments to her. Tonight I printed out all your blog comments and we read through them together. Then, on the way to the hospital to see Hannah, we stopped in to visit Carla's chorus friends at the normal thursday night practice place, for the first time since Hannah arrived.
Hannah's doing well today. Carla held her for a couple hours this afternoon, then we went back up this evening to see her again. In the hall, we ran into one of Carla's favorite nurses from the pre-birth days in the antepartum unit, and had a good visit.
Carla got pulled over on the way to the hospital today and got a warning ticket for an expired inspection sticker. Seems like I've let some some of little things slide lately. Both cars need oil changes and inspections. It's time for the quarterly visit from the bug man. The dishwasher needs attention from the Maytag repairman.
Oddly, it's sort of nice to return to the more mundane crises of everyday life after having to deal with real ones.

Dear Karl:
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, but my friend Cheryl, is a friend of your sister, Mel. Cheryl had asked some of her friends for prayers for all of you when the babies had to be delivered, and I have been following your blog ever since. Like your father-in-law, you are a gifted writer.
I can only imagine how difficult this has been for all of you and have shed many tears while reading your daily blogs, as they are so touching, and you have been through so much. My condolences for the loss of Steven and your father.
And even though it is difficult for Carla to read it now, what a treasure you have created in this blog, to be shared with mom and daughter, someday, when the time is right. Please let Carla know that there are many people out here on "Team Hannah" pulling for you all...even some who are total strangers.
God Bless you all. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers here in California!
Most sincerely,
A friend named Audrey
Our sister was a premie -- a couple of months early, back when they had a lot less in the way of the terrific technology they do today. Back then, they wouldn't even let the mother touch or see the premie except for a brief glimpse right at birth. Except for that one glance, Mom didn't see Bonnie for an entire 4 months after she was born!
ReplyDeleteBonnie is 11 years older than we are, & has a kid of her own now.
Your sharing your thoughts, facts and feelings with me draws us closer as "family" Thank You!!

When I think of this being day 38, I am in awe of the place where this began and the incredible growth that has taken place. We can't wait to see new photos!! Lik I said before, we are anxious to celebrate her first birthday party, when that rolls around. It will be before you know it! :-)
